Man Wanted In Connection With Stealing Baby Hermann’s Tortoise In Canada

A reptile thief in Toronto, Canada stole a baby Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni) from All Reptiles in Scarborough and the Toronto Police Department wants anyone who may have information on the suspect in the case, or the tortoise, to give them a call at  416-222-TIPS (8477).

Karen Truong, owner of All Reptiles just wants her tortoise back and wants it to go to a home where it can be properly cared for. Truong released the video footage to the media, which shows the man first purchasing some crickets, then goes back to the enclosure where the tortoise was kept, lifts the lid, grabs the tortoise and then walks out of the store. The man even chatted up the staff while in the store.

The Hermann’s tortoise is valued at around $520, Truong said. 

“They are quite expensive because they are hard to get,” she told CityNews. “If he can’t pay for the animal he can’t pay for the equipment,” to care for the reptile.
