Sea Turtle Recovering After She Was Found Tangled In 37 Pounds Of Marine Trash

A sea turtle that was found stuck in marine debris and an illegal fishing net is on the road to recovery after she was pulled from the ocean by Florida Fish and Wildlife wardens March 13. The turtle, named Katydid, was found entangled in about 37 pounds of illegal fishing gear and a large plastic basket off the coast, starving as she was unable to dive for food.

The staff at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center believe the reptile had been dragging the trash around for several months, based on her condition. In addition to malnutrition, she is suffering from pneumonia, but the medical staff is optimistic that she will make a full recovery.
